Limitless Horizons Ixil

It is with great joy that I invite you to celebrate our 10-year anniversary together! It has been a tremendous journey, made possible by the support of loyal donors and friends like you. I am so proud of what we have accomplished together in the community of Chajul.

And I know that together, we can accomplish so much more. Today, I want to share highlights of 10 years of progress with you, and ask for your contribution to continue this vital work into the next 10 years.

The beginning…

In 2004, Limitless Horizons Ixil had no office, no staff, no funding — it was just me and Pedro and a handful of students that we granted a small scholarship stipend and a few supplies. We weren’t sure if we would make it this far. And we wouldn’t have… if it weren’t for supporters like you who believe in what we can achieve together! You can show your belief in our work by making a donation today. Please give.

10 years later…

Today, we have a comprehensive support system designed to meet our scholars’ academic and personal needs. Our Guatemalan staff provide support, advice, and mentorship to our students. Our scholars learn about self-esteem, smart decision-making, health, and gender equality.

Today, in a community with only 39% adult literary, nearly 2,000 Chajulense children visit our library to study, read, and play.

Today, we have an empowered staff of six educated women and men from Chajul who are making decisions about our programs. Our female staff are challenging traditional roles for women and inspiring girls and young women in the community to be changemakers and reach their potential.

Today, we have seven graduates in college, who are some of the first women in Chajul to attend university. Every single one of our 19 graduating high school scholars this year aspires to go to college.

Together we can accomplish so much more! Donate today to make all this and more
possible for the years to come.

Chajul still struggles with an under-resourced school system — you can help improve the quality of education at San Gaspar, our partner middle school.

There are still many children without access to books and reading support — you can help provide them with more hours with our librarians.

Job opportunities remain scarce in Chajul — you can help provide specialized career sugirls looking onpport and expand opportunities for our scholars and graduates.

You can help us continue to grow in 2015 and beyond.

We need to raise $10,000 by the end of 2014 to deepen the impact of our programs in the coming year. Your support is now more valuable than ever, as we move towards another 10 years of growth, success, and community empowerment. I am asking you to make a gift today to enable us to cultivate potential in girls like Eymi and see the effects of our support ripple out to improve the community.

Eymi’s success proves that your support will make a world of difference.

As I reflect back on the last 10 years, I know that we each play a crucial role in making the world we want to see come to life. Thank you for joining me in building the future leaders of Chajul. Tantiuxh.

Sincerely grateful,

Katie Morrow, Executive Director

P.S. I invite you to visit us in Chajul to see your support at work and experience Maya Ixil culture in August 2015. Click here for more details!

Empowering Eymi
young EymiWhen I first met Eymi (pronounced Amy) nearly 10 years ago, she was a shy 12-year-old with big eyes and big dreams. Her mother, widowed by the civil war, was raising eight children on her own in a smoky, two-room home.

We believed in Eymi’s potential and gave her our support as one of Limitless Horizons Ixil’s first scholars. And now, at just 21, Eymi is already working to better her community. She is paying for her siblings’ education and making smart investments for her family.

As an educated woman, Eymi has options.

She has chosen to focus on her career and wait to marry until she is ready. Her dreams continue to grow; once she completes her bachelor’s, she will explore scholarships to potentially become the first woman from Chajul with a master’s degree.

Donate $250+ and you’ll be entered into a raffle to win a beautiful handmade weaving from Chajul and a personal letter from Eymi.
