In the last year, we have made incredible progress. We currently have 23 students studying in quality high schools around the country, with many more of our middle school graduates about to join them. We have more users than ever in the Saber Sin Límites community library, including an increasing number of teachers who are looking to bring more literacy programming into their classrooms. Most importantly, we are creating community leaders in our students and maximizing the leadership potential of our outstanding local staff. Highlights from this year include:
- Providing life skills trainings to 94 youth and families. LHI provided students and families with financial literacy, sexual education, healthy communication, and self esteem trainings. Each day, we see inspiring examples of our increasingly self-confident youth making smart decisions about their educational goals and their futures.
- Welcoming over 1,000 library users. Since last year’s library expansion, we have seen an incredible influx of users. We recently expanded further into a new student study space and are looking at increasing the frequency of Story Hour to accommodate more kids!
- Increasing local staff capacity. All LHI programs are fully run by staff from Chajul who are dedicated to working for their community. Every day we are decreasing our dependency on staff from outside of the community, thereby empowering local leaders and building a new professional class in Chajul!
We have big plans for next year, including more resources for our library, more support for students entering high school, and more training for local staff leaders. We need your support to make it happen! Our fundraising goal for this year’s campaign is$7,000 — please help us reach it!
